Police arrest suspected kidnapper while collecting N500,000 ransom

The Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State has arrested Mr Adekunle Michael Gerard while attempting to collect the sum of N500,000. (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) ransom for Mr Osoba Raufu’s life, after threatening to kill him if he defaults.

Briefing the Media on Monday at the police headquarters in Ogun State, he State Commissioner, CP Abiodun Alamutu, said the marked Naira notes presented as ransom were used as bait to get Gerard.

CP Alamutu noted that the 28-year-old indigene of Sawonjo Igbogila Yewa North Area in the State, was arrested at Oke-Ilewo Abeokuta, the State Capital on January 16, 2024.

CP Alamutu also alleged that the suspect, had threatened to kill the captive before police intervened, while the N500,000, which was deposited as ransom, had been marked as exhibits, assuring that efforts are ongoing to nab other members of the kidnap syndicate.

“The suspect has made a voluntary confession that he attempted to kidnap one Mr Osoba Raufu and went ahead to demand the sum of Five Hundred Thousand naira (#500,000) as ransom for his life and further threatened to kill him if he fails to deposit the ransom”, according to him.
