Police arrest, free ‘mad man’ who damaged N450,000 car windscreen

The Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State has arrested a mentally deranged man, Waheed Quadri for causing malicious damage of Spot Utility Vehicle windscreen estimated at N450,00 (Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira).

Spokesperson for the Police Command in State SP. Omolola Odutola said in a statement that Quadri was arrested by the Police on November 10, 2023.

This followed a report by the complaint, Alhaji Tajudeen Bello at the Ajuwon Divisional in Ogun State and stated that while he was driving out his Lexus jeep marked KSF 648 GF in Adetoyese, Akute Lagos, an unknown individual later identified Waheed Quadri threw a stone and damaged his vehicle windscreen.

During the process of Police interrogation at Ajuwon Divisional Police Officer, Odutola said “the DPO observed that the arrested suspect was incoherent and mumbling while speaking.

“Subsequently, the suspect’s family was contacted, and it was revealed by his mother and elder brother that Waheed Quadri is a mental health patient who had escaped from his care home in Ikire, Osun State, according to the Police spokesperson.

Odutola also said, “There have been pockets of fatal cases of hit and run accidents by drunken reckless drivers which in most cases the victim’s sufferers mental health issues, abandoned by their family members to roam the express way and sometimes found on highways exposing them to risk”.

Recall that the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, had previously appealed to families, caregivers, bother Communities, to prioritize adequate care and attention to their loved ones requiring special care.

The measure according to him, could help to prevent unfortunate incidents of persons facing mental challenges to avoid incidents and ensuring their overall welfare through supervision and support.
