Police arrest 157 alleged looters during Kano riots

Police operatives have arrested 157 criminal suspects involved in looting property during Thursday August 1, 2024 violent protests in some parts of Kano State.

In a statement by Police High Command confirmed the arrest and recovery of some of the looted properties groups of hoodlums in the nationwide protests.

It said gangs that hijacked the #EndBadGovernance
protest, launched attacks on several establishments in the State.

The statement said the police also recovered looted properties from the suspects during the incidents which it said has been brought under control by security.

Reported attacks occurred at several supermarkets at Nassarawa Quarters, resulting in property damage and theft.

The statement also confirmed a case of arson at NCC office where multiple vehicles at the complex were vandalized.

It further said Audu Bako Secretariat on Government House Kano, was set ablaze by the hoodlums who were caught with AK-47 rifle recovered at the High Court as an exhibit.

Already, the Kano State Government has endorsed the 24-hour curfew imposed to restore order and ensure the safety of residents in response to the attacks.

Police said situation is being closely monitored, and the Kano State Police Command is committed to maintaining peace and security in the State.
