Tragedy struck when a 22-year-old female teacher, Mariam Usman
was reportedly punched to death by a parent by the father of a student in in Ugbamaka, Okpo District, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency publication, the tragic incident occurred after the teacher took disciplinary action against the student.
The corporal punishment on the student by the female teacher, for disrespecting her, led to a confrontation with the child’s father that turned violent and resulted in the tragedy, and outrage.
Police authority has yet to comment on the incident, which has echoed concerns over the safety of teachers and children minders amid growing disregard for educators in workplace and society.
