Date:

Approximately 100 criminal suspects have been placed in police custody for alleged electoral offences, ahead of of the Saturday, August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, police said.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of election security, CP Erale Samuel Etaifo, disclosed this during an interview, stating that the suspects—predominantly from neighboring Ondo and Ekiti states—were apprehended over the past month for allegedly intending to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the polls.

”We have about 100 people in custody who have come from neighbouring states of Ondo and Ekiti to disrupt this election for the past one month. However, no arrests have been made today as a result of electoral violence,” CP Etaifo stated.

While clarifying that no new arrests had been recorded directly on election day, the Commissioner noted that investigations have been ordered into reported incidents of vote trading at certain polling units and isolated attempts at ballot snatching.
