The Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has slammed former Governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki for seeking asylum foreign land after failed attempt to create Local Government Traditional Councils in the seven of Edo South Senatorial District that make up Benin during his tenure in office to undermine the authority of Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin.
The subterranean moves, followed seven Local Government Traditional rulers Councils by Obaseki were however quashed Governor Monday Okpebholo who also restored full statutory rights of the traditional ruler and affirmed the indefinite suspension on Enigie (Benin Dukes) over alleged rebellion against Benin monarchy.
Oshiomhole’s comments threw his guests and supporters off-balance at the one year anniversary celebration of Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo on Wednesday November 12th 2025 in Government House.
Obaseki had said in a previous interview with a Blogger in United Kingdom that he is taking time to rest after he enrolled into fellowship at the Oxford University and thereafter write his own memoir, one year after his tenure.
But, the former two term Governor said, “and you can see that those who tried to bulkanize the Kingdom, they have had themselves now fully bulkanized”.
“They are moving from Rome to London to bear parlour and they sa they are teaching. Everybody writes his own testimonial”, he said.
Paying tribute to Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, Oshiomhole said, “we would not have been able to achieve what we have done without without the support of of the Oba of Benin.
“Your Royal Majesty, all of here are very honoured and extremely grateful for your Royal presence.
“You are the overall paramount permanent traditional ruler in Edo State.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, paid tribute to
Governor Okpebholo for according respect to the traditional institution since he took office and urge him to sustain the pace of development.
“When he assumed office he (Okpebholo) immediately took the bold steps to abolish those traditional Councils and restored full authority of His Royal Majesty as the sole traditional ruler in Edo South Senatorial District. This as you can see has brought enormous respect”, according to the VC.
