Operatives of the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State have arrested a two members of a 4-man robbery gang, Aliu Oyetola ‘m’, 35, and Seyi Afolabi ‘m’, 40 in a taxi.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola said the suspects were given a hot chance by police operatives and caught on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
SP Odutola in a statement issued on Friday, said the feat was recorded following a report by a victim whose name was not given, on the 23rd of March, 2024.
She alleged that “The victim boarded a Toyota Corolla taxi at Ijako market, going to Itori, with four men who surreptitiously posed as a fellow passenger in the said taxi”.
SP Odutola said while on the way, the 4-man gang allegedly robbed the victim of her valuables by forcefully dispossessing her of her smart phone valued at Eighty Five Thousand Naira (#85,000) cash.
The police spokesperson alleged that the money realized from Point of Sale (PoS) machine, worth One Hundred and Twenty Three Thousand Naira (#123,000).
The money was in addition to a separate cash sum of One Hundred and Five Thousand naira (#105,000) and subsequently pushed the female victim out of the car and fled, SP Odutola said.
“Acting on the report, the DPO Sango Ota Division gave his surveillance team a matching order to be on a look out, and unravel the perpetrators of the crime”, according to SP Omolola.
She said policemen from Sango Division intensified their efforts , and other two fleeing suspects were apprehended on the 28th March, 2024 when a team of surveillance policemen were on a routine patrol around the same route in Itori.
Having gotten details of their Toyota Corolla operational car, on sighting the policemen, the suspects abandoned their vehicle and ran into different directions, the crack police operatives gave the hoodlums a hot chase and they succeeded in arresting the duo, while other gang members fled.
The two suspects arrested have made confessional statements and are cooperating with the police by giving useful information that will lead to the arrest of other fleeing felons.
A Toyota Corolla vehicle with Reg.No GGE 659 FR, blue colour was recovered.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu has ordered that the suspects be transferred to the Anti robbery department of the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and for diligent prosecution.
