Ogun resident shot dead for setting off fireworks

The 2024 carnival organized by the youths of Oke Aro community in Ogun State ended in tragedy after alleged cultist fired a locally made pistol and killed a resident of the State.

The deceased whose name was given as Sunday Oloyede, reportedly set off fireworks popularly known as banger or knockout within the gathering of youth in the area on the 28th of December 2024.

Commissioner of Police in Ogun State Command, CP Lanre Ogunlowo disclosed this while addressing journalists on Monday.

He noted that the incident led to a misunderstanding ensued between the victim and 39-year-old Mutiu Abdul better known as “Blood Tonic (Eje)”, who was at the gathering, pulled the trigger and gun down the
23-year-old man.

CP Ogunlowo said the incident was reported on December 29th December at about 0842 hours by deceased elder brother, Seyi Oloyede of No. 4, Abeobi, Guwahati Oke Aro, Agbado area.

The police Commissioner said the murder suspect fled to Ikorodu in Lagos State where he was arrested by police operatives.

The police boss also alleged that the self-confessed suspect, is second highest-ranking leader of Eye confraternity in Oke Aro area, Agbado, citing police investigation.
