Off-cycle polls: EFCC arrests 14 vote buyers, recovers N11.4m cash

14 suspected vote merchandise were arrested during Saturday November 11, 2023 off-cycle governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in Otueke, Adawari playgrounds in Bayelsa State and at some polling units in two other State where elections also held.

The agency said in a statement on Saturday evening that the sum total of N11,040, 000 (Eleven Million, Forty Thousand Naira only) cash was recovered in the raids.

A breakdown of the figures in the electoral fraud, indicates that N9,310,00 ( Nine Million, Three Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira) wete intercepted from suspected vote merchandise in Bayelsa State.

The Anti-grant body also said N1,730, 000( One Million, Seven Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira) intercepted from the suspects across Imo State, were also recovered from them.

The statement which did not reveal the identifies of the suspect, explained that two vehicles were intercepted from the suspects who would be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
