Obi survives gun attack on ADC leaders, says democracy’s derailing

The 2023 Presidential Candidate of Labour party, LP, Peter Obi has says Nigeria’s democracy is derailing, after gunmen attacked leaders of African Democratic Congress, ADC on Tuesday in Benin City, Edo State.

He disclosed this after a viral video highlight the moment ADC leaders armed attacked the party Secretariat and the residence of former Governor of the State, John Odigie -Oyegun, and other leaders in Benin City and the gate riddled with bullet holes.

The highly distressed Obi who was joined by other ADC leaders, including Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, former Governor of the State, recalled that: “the hoodlums came shooting that left some vehicles at the premises damage and other valuables destroyed.

“You can see bullets mark at his gate. That is how our democracy has detailed”, Obi stated.

Reacting to the the footage on social media,
Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, revealed that the attackers fled after the incident, which sent jitters down the spines of residents in the area.

He said the attack occurred shortly after they left the ADC headquarters in the state, saying the incident as a suspected failed assassination attempt targeting members of the party leadership.

“The leadership of the ADC is under siege and attack in Benin, Edo State. Armed individuals, followed us from the ADC Secretariat to the residence of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and shot at the gate, destroying several vehicles, ” according Yanusa.
