Keeping ancient rites and the unfailing umbrella of suzerainty of Omo N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin was in full display when the 2026 sacred Orhionmwon N’ Osan-ebo N’ Owen .
traditional rites climaxed at Oba palace on Tuesday evening in Benin City, Edo State.
It was a captivating moment on Tuesday evening when traditional worshippers from the pilgrimage site in Evbo-Arhue Community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, converged on the palace in honour of Oba Ewuare, with ancient traditional songs and rhythm of royal drum beats with maracas and prayers — unfolding the rich cultural heritage of Benin people.
The annual ritual that derives its heritage from the famous Orhionmwon River and Ikpoba River, caused a cascade of positive cultural exchanges between the Benin Royal Court and a vital cultural hub for the people of Evbo-Arhue.
The cultural troupe was led by Priestess (Ohen) Orhionmwon N’ Osan-ebo N’ Owen, Ekinadese Ehibor. Sonorous voices traditional hymns Eghughu-agba, Isikhian, and Ihogbe intercessory groups, adding impetus to the rhythm at the historic celebration.
Palace Chiefs and other palace functionaries, tapped into the frenzy of the atmosphere and exhibited dancing dexterity, amid cheers.
Excited Evbo-Arhue Community natives led by Pa. Benjamin Osunde, and the Okaighele, David Ehiarivbian paid homage to the Oba Palace where prayers were offered for the well-being of the Oba of Benin and Edo State.
Elders of Evbo-Arhue, had sought the spiritual guidance of Oba Ewuare, who also offered the traditional items for the sacred rites, including, drinks and kola nuts during their previous visit to the Benin palace.
