Detectives recover N5m ‘stolen cash’ behind Bauchi ex-gov’s house

Nigeria police detectives have recovered the sum of N5,000,000.00. (Five Million Naira) cash starched at HD Plaza vehicle boot parked behind former Governor of Bauchi State, Isah Yuguda’s house on Ahmadu Bello Way in the State.

 

The Bauchi State police Command’s spokesman,

SP Nafiu Habib confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday.

 

He revealed that the detectives also arrested a 50-year-old man linked to the criminal conspiracy, theft, mischief, and possession of a fabricated key, had visited Fidelity Bank, Ahmadu Bello Way, Bauchi, and withdrawn the money “concealed inside their Peugeot 406 vehicle”.

 

He said the command received a distress call from a Good Samaritan on 14th July, 2026 at about 1430hrs. The caller reported that at about 1400hrs on the same day, a 50-year-old man had visited Fidelity Bank, Ahmadu Bello Way, Bauchi, and withdrawn the sum of Five Million Naira (₦5, 000, 000) in cash.

 

The statement said, “after the transaction, the complainant placed the money in his vehicle and proceeded to HD Plaza, Ahmadu Bello Way, Bauchi.

 

It also said the criminal suspect, parked, locked his car, and went into the plaza for shopping.

 

“However, upon his return, he observed some individuals using a fabricated key to forcefully open his vehicle.

 

“The suspects had already damaged the car door, shattered the side glass, and made away with the ₦5, 000, 000, which they concealed inside their Peugeot 406 vehicle.

 

“Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind, the victim immediately raised an alarm and gave chase while calling for assistance. This prompt action, forced the suspects to abandon their vehicle, along with the stolen money, and flee the scene.

 

“In a swift follow-up operation, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) arrested Abubakar Mustapha, a male of Tarauni LGA, Kano State, behind Isa Yuguda House, Bauchi.

 

“During the operation, detectives recovered the stolen ₦5, 000, 000, the abandoned Peugeot 406, and a fabricated key found in the suspect’s possession”, according to the statement.

 

“In a swift follow-up operation, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) arrested Abubakar Mustapha, a male of Tarauni LGA, Kano State, behind Isa Yuguda House, Bauchi. During the operation, detectives recovered the stolen ₦5, 000, 000, the abandoned Peugeot 406, and a fabricated key found in the suspect’s possession”, according to the statement.
