Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin on Thursday honoured his beloved mother, Iyoba Omo N’ikuoyemwen, Iyoba Ewuare II with the ancient Ekasa dance display in Oba Palace in Benin City.
Oba Ewuare led the pack of royal family members during Ekasa — the spiritually embedded dance procession which was part of her rite of passage of the highly venerated Ikuoyemwen who transited on eternal glory 49 years ago.
Ikuoyemwen funeral rites, which began on February 15th 2025, could not hold earlier hence Oba Ewuare II, has yet-to-ascend the throne of his forebears as the 40th Oba of Benin.
The first Class traditional ruler, majestic dance with amusement and added the needed impetus to the funeral, which began 15th February 2025 and climaxed on Thursday.
In a rare move, Oba Ewuare II, clinched Ekasa from one of the dancers and took to the dance floor after watching the various presentations by Ekasa groups, amid cheers by royal fans and guests.
Ekasa groups, comprising Ogbelaka, Eguadase, Eben and Ekele groups, performances were brought to an end with prayers for the Omo N’Oba, his Royal household and the entire Benin Kingdom.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by its leader, Chief Benjamin Ezekwere, Benin City Christian Community and Benin Muslims Community led by the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdulfatai Ebabulele were among the various groups that attended the event where Oba Ewuare Queens and His Royal Highness, Imah IV of Somorika Kingdom, Alhaji Sule Idaiye were also present.
