Mortuary attendant arrested for converting severed corpse’s leg to walking stick in Benue

Operatives of the Nigeria police Command in Benue State has taken a mortuary attendant identified only as Amaobi into police custody, after he was caught moving with a severed human leg as a walking stick in public.

 

On Friday morning incident occurred in Agwabi Community in Buruku Local Government Area of the State where he was seen walking stick while heading to a nearby shop where he wanted to buy an article.

 

His arrest by concerned youths who caught him and handed him over to police for interrogation, followed reports that he had been seen using a severed human leg as a walking stick around his neighborhood.

 

Witnesses said the unusual sight caused panic and confusion among residents and Passersby who reportedly stopped in disbelief as the man approached a local retailer to buy items.

 

The youths moved swiftly apprehended Amaobi and handed him over to the police for further questioning. The situation was brought under control before it could escalate.

 

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the act. He claimed it was intentional. According to him, he wanted to draw public attention to a problem he had been facing for months.

 

Reuben Abati Media said, the suspect told investigators that more than 18 corpses of suspected criminals, killed by security operatives last year, were still lying in his mortuary.

 

He said the bodies had not been evacuated or claimed, and the situation had become overwhelming.
