Markets shut down as women protest fatal rape of nursing student

Markets shut down as women protesters spill into streets of Omulowo, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State over the murder of a nursing student, Miss Wendy Achumba.

 

The victim, who hailed from Abia State, was a student of the College of

Nursing Sciences Umuadara Village in the Umulogho Community.

 

The police Command in Imo State, Henry Okoye stated that victim’s body was decapitated body was found last week Thursday evening in her hostel room after the reported attack.

 

Following the incident, aggrieved women were seen in a viral video

brandishing leaves and chanting solidarity songs, demanding justice for the victim.

 

Earlier in his statement with the team of police investigators, the primary suspect, a local ‘Vulcanizer’ (tyre technician) identified as Onyema Okonkwo, alongside his accomplice, Emmanuel Onyekachi (now at large) alleged that they cornered the victim inside her off-campus lodge at Umuadara Umulogho.

 

He also alleged that during the encounter, they reportedly took turns raping her before slitting her throat to cover up the crime.
