Man held for promoting violent protest in Plateau

Police operatives have arrested a social Media user, Suleiman Yakubu accused of promoting violent attacks on infrastructures, security agencies, and Nigerians in Plateau State.

Yakubu’s alleged crime was committed ahead of the planned nationwide #EndBagGovernance protests by citizens against worsening economic hardship in Nigeria scheduled to begin August 1, 2024.

Force Public Relations officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the suspect known by a TikTok account “Dan_Mallam68, was traced the suspect’s location to Ahmadu Bello Way in the State.

In a statement on Tuesday, ACP Adejobi said the suspect was arrested on 28th July 2024, Suleiman Yakubu, a 34-year-old resident of Jos North, was apprehended by police.

The police spokesman said the suspect admitted to being the individual in the viral video, but failed to explain his motivation for such statements with severe criminal implications.

ACP Adejobi note that the criminal suspect who is currently in police custody, will have a date with the law in court when investigation is completed.

The statement reads, “As you are all aware, a video recently went viral on TikTok, where an individual incited violence against state critical infrastructures, law enforcement agencies, and private individuals in Plateau State, in connection with the planned nationwide protest.

“The video, originating from a TikTok account identified as “Dan_Mallam68,” showed the suspect provocatively urging the public to attack petrol stations, security operatives, and destroy critical state and private infrastructures.

“Upon receiving this information, the Nigeria Police Force in Plateau State, with support from relevant stakeholders, traced the suspect’s location to Ahmadu Bello Way”, he said.

ACP Adejobi also reiterated that Police will not tolerate any attempts by mischief-makers to destabilize the country or incite violence.
