The suspended treasurer of Labour Party, Ms Oluchi Opara says the party has realized over N200,000,000 (Two Hundred Million) support fund for the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election.
She said this on Channels Television on Thursday, while reacting to allegations of corruption that hit the national leadership of the party.
Opara said, “We have gotten over N200m from Edo governorship election. Over N2 billion we got in the past general elections, exclude over N258m from Imo and Kogi governorship elections”.
She however backtracked and said the money was over N2 billion from from donor funds and sales of nomination and Expression of Interest forms to aspirants in the 2023 general elections
The amount, according to her exclude the sum of N258 million the party realized from both last November off-season Kogi and Kogi governorship elections
The suspended LP treasurer who appeared on set with the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Obiora Ifoh, accused the national chairman of LP, Julius Abure of high handedness.
Opara also accused Abure of money laundering and misappropriation of LP funds after he allegedly forged the signature of a former official of the party.
She flaunted Banks documents to buttress her points, argued that the national Publicity Secretary of LP cannot defend Abure whom he accused of paying party funds into his cronies accounts.
But the Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Afoh, punctured Opara’s claim, describing the allegations as false, misleading and inconsistent.
He cited the inconsistency in her statement as a pointer that the suspended LP treasurer, Opara is home and dry on issues that bother on the party administration.
Afoh admitted that Abure is a nominal signatory to LP account, noting that corruption allegations are being investigated by the party.
He corroborated the earlier submission of the 2023 Presidential Candidate of LP, Peter Obi told a Press Conference on Wednesday February 14, 2024.
Obi explained that the national leadership the party has set up Audit Committee to unravel allegations of corruption levied against Abure and others.
