A Local government Council Chairman in Benue State has been arrested in connection with assassination plot to kill the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Aondona Hycenth Dajoh.
Force Public Relations officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the assassination plot was foiled by police operatives in Benue State.
ACP. Adejobi disclosed this on Monday in a statement which confirmed that the Council boss and his accomplice are in custody.
The statement did not reveal the names of the suspects involved in the alleged plot, that was foiled through the diligent efforts of its operatives.
ACP. Adejobi explained that the suspects are currently in police custody and are actively cooperating with investigators in the ongoing inquiry.
The Force spokesman noted that preliminary investigations revealed that the Chairman allegedly contracted a militia with the sinister intention of eliminating the Speaker.
He said, “The operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) swiftly swung into action upon receiving credible intelligence regarding the planned assassination”.
ACP. Adejobi said “Both suspects are currently in police custody and are actively cooperating with investigators in the ongoing inquiry.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to upholding the safety and security of citizens and public officials.
“The arrested suspects will face the full weight of the law, and the Nigeria Police Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order, and prevention of crimes at all levels”, ACP Adejobi said.
