Jonathan parleys Oba of Benin on democracy talk

Former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, Tuesday met Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, ahead of 2024 Democracy Dialogue.

The dialogue for the former Nigeria’s leader Foundation’s Foundation programme is scheduled for Thursday June 13th Democracy Anniversary in Benin City.

Addressing the Royal father in his Palace in Benin City, Dr Jonathan, advocated functional education for citizens.

The former President who sought the royal father’s blessings and prayer, noted that democracy and education are key in evolving moral change in Africa society.

He said he has continually use his Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Foundation to deepen education and good governance for a better society.

He stated that ex-presidents of the Republic of Benin, Kenyan and former Vice President of Nigeria, Nemadi Sambo would speak at the dialogue.

The Benin monarch who offered prayers for the ex-president said: “The idea of holding the Dialogue in Benin City is an indication of your (Jonathan’s) personal recognition of Benin as home of Africa.”

Oba Ewuare II, recalled the cordial working relationship with Dr Jonathan during his Diplomatic sojourn before he ascended the throne of his forebears.

He said, “we are all on the same page on the theme (education) of the program. We pray you have a conducive environment to discuss”, he said.

The theme of the dialogue is “functional education and effective leadership”.
