Aggrieved members of Julius Abure-led faction of Labour party members on Wednesday August 6th, besieged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC), headquarters.in Abuja, protesting what they called an unlawful exclusion of Candidates of the party from the upcoming FCT Area Councils bye-elections.
With placards in hands, the protesters accused the leadership of Commission of sideling the party’s democratic rights to be voted for as a registered political party in Nigeria.
INEC National Commissioner, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru who addressed the protesters, acknowledged their concerns and assured the group that the Commission would thoroughly investigate the alleged omission of Labour party’s Candidates from INEC (online) portal.
The INEC official also assured the protesters that all validly nominated Candidates will be treated fairly in accordance with the electoral Guidelines of the Commission.
TheNewspad reports that the protesters temporarily dispersed at the INEC headquarters after receiving the assurance, while some party members vowed to monitor and sustain the peaceful protest until the Commission responds to their pending request.
