Hunger: Nigerians queue up for ‘politicians bread’

A footage of Nigerians scrambling for free loaves of bread during Nigeria 64th Independence anniversary on October 1st, 2024, has caught the attention of netizens on social media space.

The gifts were supplied by politicians accompanied by security personnel in military camouflage to a particular location where beneficiaries were seeing queuing up in large number, including women that adorned themselves in hijab.

A voice of an unidentified man who stood behind a packed van where the loaves were kept, can be heard at the background of the video shared on Instagram, issuing instructions in Yoruba language in the presence of security operatives, preventing a potential stampede.

Befuddled X (formerly known as Twitter) user, Tobi Akinbo J, said, “And headquarters of the Nigerian Army deployed its personnel to protect the loaves of bread from been hijacked”.

“How quickly the APC ridiculed all our institutions, is a case study. This is shameful and it’s speaks volume about weaponised poverty”, he alleged.

Another X user, known as ‘son of a praying’, said, “there is nothing as shameful as this video. Imagine what you have turned your people into”.

“Make them poor and then, serve them the bread of affliction. They are chained because they will always come back again”, he said.

In another reaction to the video, Yelwa wrote: “Later some people will open their mouth and say, ‘it’s only the northerners…our own is even better. It’s spaghetti, unlike una bread”.
