How driver’s fatigue killed 15 travellers in Ilorin-Jebba road crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has alleged that the tiredness of a truck driver led to the killing of 15 travellers in a lone accident along Ilorin-Jebba road Express way crash on Monday July 6.

 

FRSC Sector Commander, Kabiru Kazeem, identified the driver as Nasiru Muhammed and said all males lost their lives in accident that occurred at Muslim cemetery, along Ogbomoso-Oko Olowo route on Ilorin-Jebba expressway, Kwara State.

 

He stated that total number of 48 people (all males) were involved in the crash, added that 17 people sustained varying degrees of injury and 16 persons were reported unhurt.

 

The nature of injury sustained include fracture, dislocation and bruises in the line accident involving the DAF truck marked: XF GWL274XC, according to the FRSC official.

 

He explained that the injured victims had been taken to Arewa medical centre and Baki Hospital for medical attention, while corpses had been handed over to the representative of the families and Sarkin Hausawa, Oko Olowo in the Moro Local Government area of Kwara State.

 

The search for more victims, that were buried under the load, was going on, adding that the rescue operation was jointly carried out by personnel of RS8. 15 Oloru and RS8. 1 Kwara (Oko Olowo outpost), according to the sector commander who advised motoring public to avoid mixed loading and night traveling.
