Gunmen in ‘DSS uniform’ kidnap activist in Edo

Gunmen in DSS camouflage have reportedly kidnapped a Benin-based frontline Human Rights activist, Leftist Omobude Agho.

The Coordinator General of Edo Civil Society Organizations (EDOCSOs), was whisked away from his residence at Medical stores area in Egor Local Government Area in the State at about 2.am on Friday June 14, 2024.

A traumatised family member said the gunmen stormed his house Omobude in four vehicles, laid siege to his house and and took him away without any prior invitation.

The source said the behaviour of gunmen who went for their target, sent fears down the spines of residents of the area, who scampered to safety.

The former spokesman for the group, Leftist Osazee Edigin in a social Media post, likened the scene to the manner the social critic was treated like the “most dreaded bandit leader”.

He suspected that the act might have been carried by DSS operatives, noting that
“time shall tell if the DSS has become a tool to be used or otherwise”.

According to him, “As at the moment of the civil society movement still trying to unravel what level of criminal act that he might have committed, the DSS didn’t give reason for such a huge mobilization of men and resources for the arrest of a human rights activist who could have just been invited”.
