Gunmen attack police checkpoint, kill four officers in Zamfara

Gunmen have attacked a police checkpoint on Gusau – Bungudu road area of Zamfara State, killing four police officers.

The Tribune said armed bandits in large numbers were said to have ambushed the Cops attached to Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara on Monday night.

A resident of Bungudu town, Mallam Umar, told the tabloid that four of the policemen were killed during the ambush.

“Bandits in their large number killed four police in Bungudu yesterday night; they ambushed the police along Gusau Bungudu Road close to Nabature company, they also catered away many cattle at Tagero village under Furfuri district of Bungudu area”.

The police officers were said to have mounted a checkpoint along Bungudu-Gusau Road when the armed bandits ambushed and opened fire on them.

The spokesman of the Nigeria police Command in Zamfara State, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the attack, but said he cannot immediately verify if any policeman was killed during the incident.
