A socio-cultural Organization, Aiguobasinmwin Movement has asked the Nigerian government
to decentralise the N2.1 trillion pipeline surveillance contract in Niger Delta region.
It said the move will help to address human empowerment of and address a specific ethnic nationality, recognized by the Federal Government to act on behalf of the nine States.
In a statement jointly signed by President of Aiguobasiwmin Movement, Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture and the Assistant Secretary, Mr. Uhunoma Ewere Lucky, Assistant Secretary and others, wondered why the Pipeline Surveillance Contract, is awarded to only few people instead of the people that made up Niger-Delta Region.
According to the citizens-led advocacy group, “This act demands prompt scrutiny to preclude the emergence of hostility among ethnic nationalities in the Niger-Delta Region”.
The group also alleged that “those in solidarity for the 2.1 trillion Naira Pipeline Surveillance Contract extension for Tantita Security Services and Maton across the nine States in Niger Delta Region are people of the same ethnic group who benefit from the huge proceeds of our collective wealth/ contracts as against the entire people of Niger Delta Region”.
“We therefore request that the 2.1 trillion Naira Pipeline Surveillance Contract awarded to Tantita Security Services and Maton should be decentralized across firms in the nine (9) Niger Delta states in order to attain the desire peace in the Niger-Delta Region, with specific attention to Edo State”, according to the pressure group.
The non-partisan group also call on Edo State Government to immediately interface with the Federal Government in order to see to the actualization of our agitation.
