Fire guts building near Bank, motor park in Edo

Bystanders joined devastated business owners in lamenting loss when fire engulfed a private property on Akpakpava road near Eyanugie street junction beside Big Joe Motor park in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State on Easter Monday.

No casualty was recorded in the inferno that broke out on Monday afternoon in the affected building, adjacent to Polaris Bank that was mounted by armed security agents.

Stock worth millions of Naira in addition to the property, were consumed in the fire whose cause TheNewspad could not immediately verify.

Concerned residents in the area quickly salvage some mattresses and household items from a nearby foam dealer stores near the affected property from been destroyed by the fire.

TheNewspad reports that passengers either alighting or boarding vehicle to and from their various destinations were stranded for hours at the motor park whose management quickly relocated its vehicles in order not to be impacted by the disaster.

Also, hawkers and bystanders converged in clusters to watch the blaze with anxiety, while some motorists contacted fire fighters to intervene and help to put out the ravaging fire as thick smoke bellowed over roofs top.

Investigation revealed that motoring on the busy road slowed down momentarily as captured in a 32 minutes footage by Prince Lucky Igbinedion, witness.

Youths grabbed what he could from the fire and rushed out of his a nearby property housing the mattresses to Akpakpava road pavement, according to Igbinedion.

“Let the fire Service come and do the needful. They (residents) are trying to salvage mattresses from the next building around. Oh, the people are helpless”, Igbinedion lamented.
