Families grief over beheading of abducted Maths teacher in Oyo

The family and children of Michael Oyedokun, one of the abducted teachers of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State who was beheaded by bandits have been thrown into mourning.

 

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, confirmed the death of the Mathematics teach during a meeting with heads of Security agencies in Ibadan.

 

This was after the grisly video of the victim who was seen being tied and forced to speak, was released by bandits on Sunday afternoon.

 

He said seven teachers and an unspecified school children were involved, while assuring family of the victim of his prayers and his administration support.

 

The Governor also assured that his government would explore both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to rescue others in the kidnappers’ hideouts.

 

According to Makinde, “what we know right now is that seven teachers were involved. They were abducted along with some school children. We got a video this morning. One of the teachers, the Maths teacher was killed.

 

He also stated that the government will bear responsibility for the medical needs of wounded security agents including, Army and local vigilantes who are receiving medical treatment at health facilities in the State.

 

“I want to appeal to everybody, citizens, residents that we are doing everything to ensure that this will be resolved quickly. And, there are no quick fix”,. according to Makinde.

 

Similarly, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, in a statement on Monday, confirmed.the arrest of six suspects in connection with the kidnapping incident.

 

According to him, the operatives lost their lives when they ran into Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), planted by the abductors.

 

He appealed to the victims’ relatives, religious bodies and other interested parties to exercise patience, promising that the government will rescue and reunite the victims with their families.

 

“So, please, there may not be quick fixes, but we will continue to endeavour to push ourselves to the limit to resolve this quickly.

 

“What we know right now is that seven teachers in all were abducted. And, unfortunately, we got a video this morning that one of the teachers, I understand, the mathematics teacher, was killed by the terrorists,” said.
