Ex-Rep member: INEC official jailed after asking for election rigging payment in error

Former House of Representatives member, representing Ikpoba-Okha/Egor federal Constituency, Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, has recounted how Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC official implicated himself by default and got jailed for electoral fraud in 2019 elections.

 

Speaking in an interview on Television last Saturday in Benin, Agbonayinma, alleged that after the former INEC official mistakenly called him in error on phone and requested him to pay him his outstanding balance money instead of a popular politician who wanted to steal the mandate illegally.

 

The former lawmaker who did not reveal the identity of the official, stated that the recorded telephone conversation of how the INEC official who was arraigned in court and dismissed years ago, and used against him in court.

 

Agbonayinma who was first elected in the 8th National Assembly, and re-contested the 2019 poll on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, but lost, claimed that his mandate in the election was stolen.

 

He alleged that the plan was executed by his political adversaries through manipulation of results declared by INEC, said, “I contested the 2019 election. Yet, my mandate was stolen by a cabal at that time”.

 

“But to the glory of God, miracle took place in my life, when the INEC man who shared the result, called, dialled my phone number. He (INEC official) told me in error how he changed the election results ― thinking it was Orbih, the PDP chairman, tellinge to come and redeem the balance payment”, Agbonayinma said.

 

He also stated that the INEC official was eventually arrested alongside his accomplices after he raised the alarm, by Department of State Security Services operatives and arraigned in court on a 5-count criminal charge, and sent to prison custody.

 

Agbonayinma further accused Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State and the APC-led federal government of marginalizing Edo South Senatorial District in area of employment and appointments despite its numerical strength of the Senatorial District.
