The Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board (ESSLB), under the supervision of the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, has formally opened applications for its 2025 scholarship awards, an initiative approved by the state’s governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
According to the ESSLB’s public release, the scholarship scheme comprises three categories:
Under this scheme, an Undergraduate Scholarship, offering 500 slots for students in 100- and 200-level at any recognised tertiary institution in Nigeria.
A Teachers’ Scholarship, providing 1,000 slots for indigenous teachers in Enugu State government schools who intend to pursue master’s degrees and commit to teaching for 10 years post-award.
A Post-Graduate Scholarship, with 100 slots for master’s and doctoral candidates in Nigerian universities.
Eligibility requirements stated that applicants must be indigenes of Enugu State and hold valid admission (or be in the process of admission) for the 2025/2026 academic session in the relevant category.
IThe board added that required documents include a Local Government Area (LGA) of origin identification letter, a valid admission letter, letter of acceptance, attestation from a traditional ruler, a passport photograph, and for teachers, their employment letter from a state-government school.
The application process is entirely online via the portal at apply.esselb.en.gov.ng. Applicants should pick one category only (Undergraduate, Teachers or Post-graduate), upload all required documents in one PDF file (maximum size 2 MB) and submit.
It further announced that the application window opens 14 November 2025 and the deadline is midnight 28 November 2025 for undergraduates and post-graduates, while applications for the teachers’ scholarship close on 8 December 2025.
Shortlisted candidates will take a computer-based test (CBT), which can be taken from anywhere with a reliable internet connection. Visually impaired students in 100- and 200-level are specifically encouraged to apply.

The board also stressed that only submissions with all required documents will be shortlisted, and processing is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Commissioner Mbah, in the release, thanked Governor Mbah for prioritising education and affirmed the State Government’s commitment to human-capital development through empowerment of indigenes.
