Enigie saga: Oba of Benin to appoint district heads

Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin on Thursday revealed plans to appoint Okao Eguae across the various Dukedoms in Benin Kingdom whose Enigie (Dukes) have been suspended indefinitely by the monarch.

Okao Eguae — District heads who will serve as traditional liaison officers of Oba Palace to the affected Dukedoms where either Okao exist or doesn’t exist, for smooth administration.

Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin with Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo at the meeting in Oba Palace.

Oba Ewuare II dropped the hint during an enlarged meeting with Edionwere (village heads) and elders in the affected areas in Oba Palace in Benin City.

According to him, under the new traditional administrative system, the throne will immediately send Okao Eguae to Ehor, Ologbo and Ulegun Dukedoms to strengthen the traditional leadership structure in the areas.

The first Class traditional ruler assured that after his transited mother’s funeral activities, he would make necessary arrangement for appointment of Okao Eguae in other areas and reaffirmed the ban on Community Development Associations (CDA).

“We won’t just leave you alone. The suspended Enigie are no longer in-charge.

“If we allow it to remain that way, some of the youths will overrun their elders”, he said.

The Oba who addressed the elders in Edo stated that the presence of Governor Monday Okpebholo at the meeting shows that the State government is in sink with traditional institutions in Edo State.

Emehe and Isikhuan Royal Guilds also made a special presentation at the Royal event.
