TheNewspad recalls that the fierce debate comes months after the Anglican church of God in Nigeria banned politicians involvement in church activities.
This followed an outburst by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike in the heat of crisis in Rivers State in response to suspension of democratic rule before the reinstatement of Governor Sim Fubara by President Bola Tinubu.
The church drew the line between faith and politics at the pulpit in response to the fiery political speech delivered by Wike that attracted a backlash from the Nigerian public in Abuja All Saints Anglican church.
Wike had used the sacred platform to lash out at his critics for being behind the crisis in Rivers State, a move seen as an act that many people saw as an act that should not been seen at God’s sanctuary.
There was also similar incident in January 2018 involving Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kankanfo of Yoruba land and leader of Oodua Peoples Congress, caught rolling on the floor during Celestial Church of Christ Thanksgiving service at the Genesis Model Parish, Alakuko in Lagos State.
Adams informed worshippers at the congregation that he saw humility and holiness in a Cleric who prophesied that he would be the 15th Aare Ona Kankanfo of Yoruba land and it came to pass two weeks after the prophecy was made.
