EFCC arrests Tambuwal for alleged N189bn fraud

Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State was on Monday August 11th 2025 arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He was taken into custody over N189 billion unauthorized withdrawals from government coffers during his tenure in office, in breach of the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Official response by the anti-graft Agency, is been awaited, EFCC sources said he is Tambuwal was detained at the Commission’s head office at about 11a.m.

Prior to his tenure as Governor of Sokoto State, Tambuwal was formerly the Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.

A source said the investigation over gross violation of the Money Laundering Act, has been ongoing for months in connection with the alleged scandal.
