Edo will burn if…Olaye, NURTW boss tells voters

Odion Olaye, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Edo State has threatened that the State will burn if the September 21st Edo State governorship election is rigged.

The People Democratic party (PDP) Chieftain issued the threat on Monday while addressing members and his supporters in Egor Local government Area of the State.

This comes barely one month after Governor Godwin Obaseki issued a similar threat that Nigeria will burn if the forthcoming poll is compromised.

Addressing voters at Egor Local Government Area, Olaye said, “Police will not stop us from mobilizing our people to vote PDP.

“One policeman from Osun State recently said he will me show me red card. It’s APC we will show red card on election day”, he said.

“If they refuse to declare Asue, Ogie winner Edo will burn”, Olaye said after a surging symphony of soul lifting songs, ‘Let the glory of the Lord come down’.

Having realized that he freudian slip, Olaye was however cautioned by another party chieftain who stood beside him at podium that he was on a live television, prompting him to yield the podium.

In his part, Governor Obaseki appealed to residents in the locality not to be scared of threats by merchants of violence to exercise their franchise during the poll.

He said, “on September 21st election will be the most important election. It’s either we go forward or move backward. But, we will move forward”.

Obaseki said, wondered why one of the Candidates who lack who didn’t go to school should go about telling residents of the State that he will develop Education in the State.

He also said, “we have learnt from our mistakes. This Local Government is filled with young people” due to the presence of University of Benin and Benin Technical College, which is in the area.

The Governor also urged the voters to vote PDP to sustain his legacy and develop the area, asking, “have I ever lied to you before. Have I made any promise that I didn’t fulfill?”.

Also speaking, Asue Ighodalo, PDP Candidate in the election took a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress for causing economic hardship in Nigeria.

Earlier, the chairman of PDP, Edo State chapter, Tony Aziegbemin challenged voters in the locality to vote PDP and monitor their votes on election day.
