A student of Amazing Grace School in Benin City, Edo State, slumped after receiving several strokes of cane from her school’s Proprietress, Ufuoma Eribo for alleged ‘unruly behaviour’.
The incident involving a 14-year-old minor, happened on Monday October 21st 2024 located, 41 JJ Longe Avenue, off Igbinosa Street, via Irhirhi road, by Omoma Street, Oko-Central area, Benin City, Edo State.
The victim was said to have vehemently refused to pay N6,000 levy imposed on her and other students in her class to replace a damaged Laboratory equipment by a yet-to-be identified student.
A Mathematics teacher in the school simply identified as Mr Sam, announced the school’s directive to the affected students in the Chemistry Laboratory.
It was said that the female student was laid on a desk by some of her male Classmates acting on the instruction of the Proprietress for allegedly speaking rudely and disrespecting her teacher had slapped the girl, accused of insubordination.
The development was after her Mathematics teacher thereafter asked her to kneel down with another male student as a punishment for failing to provide the money
the next day in school.

(Online) reported that the defiance by the victim, fuelled anger of the Proprietress who doubles as the Principal of the school, threw caution to the wind and descended on the victim with a cane, which inflicted injury on the student’s body.
The girl’s mother, Susan Chukwuka, admitted that her daughter’s offence was grievous, but, kicked against corporal punishment by stripping girl of her dignity in front of daughter’s her peers.
According to her, “I had no idea how far she would go,” Susan said, referring to her earlier conversation with the Principal, where Mrs. Eribo had mentioned that the girl would face consequences.
“Since yesterday, my daughter has been unable to sit, and her face is swollen from crying”, Chukwuka said.
