A 39-year-old man, Evans Ehigiamusoe has been taken into police custody in connection with the alleged murder of his wife identified as Osaiyekemwen Ugbo
at House 13, Chief Enichabe Avenue, Royal Community FO1, Abuja.
The domestic abuse victim’s was said to have endured prolonged domestic violence in the hands of the suspect, which family of the deceased believe may have contributed to her untimely death.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria police Command in Edo, ASP Eno Ikoedem said in a statement that the incident occurred on the 1st of April, 2026, between the hours of 23:30hrs and 00:00hrs.
According to the report which was formally made by one Osasenaga Ugbuo Samuel of Ute Community in Edo state, her husband, who allegedly informed the family of the deceased of the tragic incident on the 2nd of April, 2026.
While commiserating with bereaved family and the general public,
the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, assured that the Command does not treat matters of this nature with levity.
“Every necessary step is being taken to ensure that justice is served and that anyone found culpable is made to face the full weight of the law”, according to him.
The statement also said preliminary investigation reveals that the alleged offence did not occur within Edo State jurisdiction, assuring that the case will be given all diligent preliminary considerations required for aduccing relevant evidence in serious allegations like this.
“The Edo State Police Command commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures them that their cries for justice are heard and will not be ignored”, she said .
Ikoedem said the Command remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring that perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to justice.
Members of the public are therefore urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and allow the law to take its course”, according to the police spokesperson.
She further assured that the case will be transferred to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command, for further investigation and prosecution as appropriate, in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
