The Edo State government has announced the indefinite postponement 2025/2026 school resumption across the five Local Government Areas that make-up Central Senatorial District ― where Governor Monday Okpebholo represented in the Nigerian Senator before his election as Governor of the State, amid spate of insecurity.
The five Local Government Areas are: Esan South East, Esan North East, Esan Central, Igueben and Esan West, which was recently engulfed in protests arising from violent crimes, including fatal abductions of natives.
In a statement personally signed the State Commissioner for Education, Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu on Monday January 12th 2026 date for the second term school resumption in other parts of the State, said the decision will pave the way for the government to address some emergencies to improve the welfare of school children, ahead of a new date of resumption, which will be communicated to the public in due course.
The statement kindly request parents, guardians, school heads, Proprietors, and all Stakeholders within Edo Central Senatorial District to take note of the development and comply accordingly.
The statement reads, “This is to inform the general public, particularly parents, school heads, and Proprietors that the resumption of public and private schools for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session has been postponed until further notice”.
“This is to enable us address some exigencies to improve the welfare of our Children. The new date of resumption will be duly communicated to the public in due course.
“Parents, guardians, and all Stakeholders within Edo Central Senatorial District are kindly requested to take note of this development and comply accordingly”, Iyamu said.
