Edo govt okays N20,000 benefit to whistle blowers

 

The Edo State government has announced a policy that offers N20,000 reward to any whistle blower who offers genuine information, leading to the arrest and prosecution of persons behind illegal waste disposal at unauthorized locations in the State.

Managing Director, Edo State Waste Management Board, Lucky Enehita Inegbinehi said this on Radio interview in Benin City where he shifted negative perception to positive territory.

He said Governor Okpebholo-led administration is determine to give Environmental sanitation a central role, highlighting valuable lessons learned so far to proactively make Edo the cleanest State in Nigeria within 6 months.

“Before the next six months, Edo State will become the cleanest State in Nigeria. We have another platform we call, see something and say something. If you see anyone who disposes refuse at unauthorized location(s) in any part of the State, please film and send the clip to us through a dedicated Whatsapp line.

“We will compensate whistle blowers with the sum of N20,000. We will arrest and send the environmental sanitation offenders to mobile court for prosecution”, according to him.

He assured residents of the State that the Board has put strategy in place towards proper enforcement of environmental laws and provide working equipment for its workforce on the Board
for creative solutions.

“We have mapped out 15 strategic locations to deploy public waste bins in Edo State as a pilot scheme. These waste bins are going to be surrounded by iron bars to prevent theft.

“Close Circuit Cameras (CCTV) are going to be connected to my dashboard in my office,. where will monitor activities going around the locations by our Taskforce”, he assured.

He stated that the Board has scaled up his task and support of residents and other Stakeholders to enable the Board deliver efficient service in order to achieve Governor Monday Okpebholo’s health safety environment agenda for all.

Inegbinehi, further appealed to traders at the various markets to prioritize their hygiene and urge market leaders as well as Heads of Local Government Administration to be alert to their responsibilities, aimed at repositioning markets to become cleaner for the overall wellbeing of residents of the State.
