The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has resigned from his position following mounting impeachment pressures.
In his stead, the Deputy Speaker and lawmaker representing Orhionmwon 1 Constituency, Osamwonyi Atu, has stepped in, presiding over plenary on Monday morning.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Ivy Adodo Ebojele, confirmed the resignation via a social media post, noting that further details would be released subsequently.
Agbebaku’s abrupt exit comes on the heels of intense legislative moves targeting his office.
Originally elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Agbebaku later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in January 2025.
More to come…
