Dokubo threatens to shoot helicopters on his roof

RIVERS — Former Niger Delta warlord, Asari Dokubo has threatened to shoot down unidentified helicopters allegedly trespassing around his residence in Port Harcourt, the State Capital.

He alleged that military and police helicopters along with gunships are attempting to prevent him from exercising his franchise during Saturday October 5th River State Local Government Councils election.

Neither the Nigerian military nor the Nigeria Police have claimed responsibility. But, in a viral video, Dokubo, urge President Bola Tinubu not to subject River State into the dictatorship Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

He also stated that he is not afraid of death, stated that Nigerian government knows that he has the capacity to contain any form of assault targeted at him.

The founder, Niger-Delta People Volunteer Force, NDPVF, said, “Nigeria, Rivers people and Ijaw people cannot surrender to Wike and his forces”.

He said, “All those who are there, when their helicopter is shutdown, let nobody blame me. If it takes me to go and look at the helicopter, I will shoot down their helicopter. I swear by Allah. Whoever is commanding them should be warned. Enough is enough.

“Tinubu should not handover River State to slavery or Wike. Wike is nobody without the paraphernalia of office”, Dokubo said.

The 60-year-old ex-militant leader, insisted that despite the heavy security presence at his residence, he will vote in the election, noting that Rivers people will not only vote and had their votes counted, but, all elected Council chairmen will be sworn-in irrespective of attempts by certain institutions of government to sabotage the electoral process.

There has been accusation and counter accusations between the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun and the embattled Governor of River State, Siminalayi Fubara over the withdrawal of police personnel from providing security in the election, citing a federal High court in Abuja judgement barring the River State Independent Electoral Commission from holding the poll.

This followed failed plot by Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the State House of Assembly to remove the Governor after their defection from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).
