Dirty bank note payments delay voting in Edo LGA

The conduct of Edo State governorship election was halted

temporarily on Saturday morning due to alleged rejection of dirty bank note that were paid to some Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
INEC adhoc staff deployed for the exercise in Owan West Local Government Area of the State.

The incident happened at INEC wrack Centre, Ward 10 in Owan West Local Government Area where electoral materials were kept ahead of distribution to various polling Units in the locality.

TheNewspad reports that voting process after some aggrieved adhoc staff vowed not to commence the exercise until their concerns are addressed by INEC.

Security personnel were made a good show of their presence, but the entrance gate at the wrack centre was temporarily shut, leaving eligible voters stranded.

However, Electoral officer in charge of the area has gone taken the complaint raised by affected INEC Adhoc staff to the appropriate quarter at the time of filing this report.

There are concerns that heightened could impact on the electoral process due to the delay in accreditation of voters and cause possible operational setback.

The election process is being relatively peaceful in most parts of the State, except for delay in arrival of voting materials and logistics in few areas monitored.

Effort by our Reporter to obtain comments from the INEC officials were unsuccessful.
