Curb social vices, Oba of Benin urges Alma mater

Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin has advised the global body of Alma mater to support traditional institutions in curbing social vices in society towards impacting humanity positively.

The Royal father gave the advice when members of Immaculate Conception College Old Boys Association (ICCOBA) paid a courtesy visit to Oba Palace in Benin City where they kindled a strong bond that brought not just joy, but a sense of personal pride.

Oba Ewuare II who was jocular and convivial in interaction with his guests, kept emotive teasers under Royal protocols and charged ICCOBA to keep their integrity intact as touch bearers of society in the development of their Alma mater.

The first Class traditional ruler, who gave a rare insight into his experience in Catholicism, which he stressed formed the bedrock of his Religious knowledge and the Bible, also reflected on Nigeria’s Civil war that took a toll on the Academic Calendar.

“It’s important to do advocacy with the Children and educate them on the danger of social vices, especially cultism, human trafficking, drug abuse
that impact negativity on society”, he said.

Oba Ewuare II also said, “I should introduce myself. I am Ewuare, the second, formerly known as Prince Erediauwa, formerly known as Prince Akenzua when I was a student at Immaculate Conception College (ICC), Benin. We have to go down memory lane.

“When the young man there that was in my Class came to pay respect a moment ago, he was surprised that I recognized him. Should I tell everyone what happened in class those days? If you want me to say it, I will say it. If you want me to keep it, I will keep it. Okay, I won’t.

Oba Ewuare II also pledged his support for ICCOBA, which is billed to mark its 80th Anniversary in late November 2024 and perform duties assigned to him as Grand Patron of the Association.

Addressing the Benin throne, the President of ICCOBA, Ighodalo Edetanlen, drew the attention of Oba Ewuare II, an ICCOBA, to the programme of activities that have been slated for the forthcoming ceremonies, and solicited prayers and Royal support towards its endowment fund launched to assist indigent students.

Prayers by Chief Edwin Uwoghiren, the Ima of Benin on behalf of the Palace, preceded the group photograph by members of ICCOBA with Oba Ewuare II to keep the historic event.
