Court decides Kanu fate on terrorism trial November 20 amid failure to open defense

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court will on November 20th 2025 decide the date of the detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, after the later refused to open his defense as he had on several occasions indicated.

Kanu, is being prosecuted by the Department of State Security Service, DSS on a seven count charge, bothering on his alleged involvement in terrorism activities after his re-arrested in Kenya and subsequently extradited to Nigeria in June 2021.

The trial judge fixed the date for judgment in the terrorism charge brought by the federal government against the IPOB leader in Friday November 7th 2025.

Leadership reports that Kanu, who had earlier filed a motion on Friday, challenged his trial on the ground that terrorism was no longer an offense in Nigeria as at today.

He claimed that the earlier Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act had been repealed and as such, maintaining there were no valid charges against him.
