A yet-to-be identified armed member of Edo State Security Corps has shot a female resident of Edo State.
The incident that occurred last week at Upper Sokponba axis in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the State, caused panic amongst commuters and other road users.
Investigation revealed that Corps was chasing a suspected criminal when he pulled the trigger that hit the victim on her back, while she was returning home after closing from work in the fateful day.
The middle-aged woman who is gradually recuperating at the Nigeria Police Clinic at Ikpokpan in Benin City, was taken to the facility by a Samaritan who left afterwards.
The fugitive was said to have escaped with his gun after the incident.
The shocking incident has echoed calls by concerned Edo State residents calling for a total overhaul of the Local security architecture by the State government and weed-out bad elements across the State.
In the meantime, police authorities at Ugbekun Area have been put in alert mode to track down the perpetrator through Hi-tech intelligence network.
