Benue boat death toll hits 24 — police PRO

Nigeria Police Command in Benue State says the death toll in last Saturday boat disaster that occured in Agatu Local Government Area of the State, has risen from 20 to 24 as at Monday December 16.

Command’s spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene said, “four more corpses recovered today while 3 persons are still missing” in the incident.

TheNewspad recalls that the capsized wooden boat crashed in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving an unspecified number people missing.

The police image maker said 11 persons rescued unhurt by emergency responders and security agents while the initial 10 persons earlier rescued unconscious.

Accordingly, eight persons were resuscitated and are responding to treatment while two persons have been confirmed dead and deposited at the mortuary in Benue State.

Further breakdown indicates that six persons had been confirmed dead while persons are still missing as at 4pm on Monday 16th of December 2024.
