The Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, has kept the memory of his Royal ancestors alive with the ancient Ugierhoba traditional rite.
The ceremony marks the beginning of the 2025 Igue festival held the sacred Ugharhoba axis at the Benin Palace in Benin City, highlighting a strong fortress between the past and the present.
Ugierhoba rite’ in Edo language connotation ― is a sacred altars, specifically dedicated to Oba Ewuare’s forebears who were honoured at the ongoing Igue festival also known as ‘Ugie’.
The Oba, stirred some deep and personal introspection and to solitary communion with nature at Ugierhoba, where he offered prayer alongside various groups who offered intercessory prayers for spiritual renewal and rendered soul-lifting Edo songs for divine guidance, well-being of the royal father and members of his family, Benin Kingdom and Nigeria.
Deserving chants and reverence in honour of Benin throne, punctuated the traditional ceremony, which began with a procession after Oba Ewuare paid tribute to his royal ancestors at ‘Ugha-Ozolua’ axis in line with established ancient traditional norms.
Members of Ihogbe, Ehondor ― the traditional butchers, Ifiento, Ewaise (traditional Physicians) groups and Chiefs, gave account to their stewardship at the event that featured slaughtering of animals.
Oba, joined by his children and the royal family, inspired royal fans through his presence and confidence, which added impetus to the rhythm of the traditional orchestra.
