Police issue update on suspended Cross River lawmaker, wife’s domestic violence

The Nigeria police Command in Cross River State has clarified the circumstances surrounding the alleged arrest of a member of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Ovat Dickson Agbor, over a reported case of domestic violence involving his wife.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Eitokpah Sunday, said the lawmaker, who represents Obubra State Constituency, was not arrested as widely speculated in some sections of the public.

The command explained that the lawmaker and his wife honoured a police invitation following a complaint relating to alleged domestic violence.
According to the statement, both parties appeared before the police for interrogation and questioning regarding the matter.

During the interaction, the couple reportedly expressed willingness to resolve their differences after appeals were made by the wife.

The police further disclosed that the lawmaker had since been released to a reliable surety while investigations into the matter continue.

The command added that upon the conclusion of the investigation, the case file would be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney-General for legal advice.

The police assured members of the public that the matter is being handled professionally and in accordance with established legal procedure.
