Army alerts public over attempted cyber breach of official X Account

The Nigerian Army has alerted the public to an attempted unauthorised access to its official X (formerly Twitter) account, describing the incident as a cybersecurity breach.

 

The Army, in a statement issued on Saturday, August 29, 2026, by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, said the incident occurred at about 5pm.

 

According to the statement, the Army has activated immediate technical and protective measures to secure the affected account, prevent further unauthorised access and safeguard the integrity of information disseminated through the platform.

 

It assured members of the public, the media and other stakeholders that measures were underway to fully secure the account and restore exclusive administrative control.

 

The Army consequently advised the public to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised, misleading or unverified content emanating from the affected account, stressing that such content does not represent its official position.

 

It said, “The Nigerian Army remains committed to information integrity, operational security and responsible strategic communication.

 

The Army urged members of the public and the media to verify information through its other official communication platforms pending the resolution of the incident.

 

It listed its alternative official channels as Facebook pages, Nigerian Army and Nigerian ArmyInfo; Instagram pages, Nigerian Army and Nigerian ArmyInfo; X account, Nigerian ArmyInfo; and YouTube channels, Nigerian Army and @nigerianarmyinfotv.
