The Anambra State Police Command has ordered an investigation into the whereabouts of an alleged armed robbery suspect reportedly arrested and taken to the 3-3 Police Station in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, ordered the issuance of queries to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), while directing disciplinary proceedings against an Inspector of Police over the matter.
The directives followed a viral video alleging that the suspect, who was reportedly arrested and brought to the station, could no longer be accounted for.
The Commissioner took the decision on October 5, 2026, after personally interviewing the complainant and police officers involved in the matter.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Tuesday, CP Nnanna described the allegation as serious, noting that such a development could undermine public confidence in the Police.
He said the Command would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or compromise of established procedures by its personnel.
The Commissioner consequently directed the Command’s X-Squad to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts.
The investigation will also examine the actions and responsibilities of the police officers involved in the case.
CP Nnanna further disclosed that operational measures had been put in place to facilitate the arrest of the suspect, while assuring members of the public that the Command would communicate the outcome of the investigation once the facts are established.
He, however, cautioned members of the public against circulating unverified information capable of prejudicing the ongoing investigation, stressing that the facts of the case must be established through due process.
The Commissioner reiterated that accountability remains a key part of his leadership philosophy, adding that no police officer is above scrutiny or the established disciplinary process.
