The newly constituted Judicial Panel of assets and property recovery by Abia State governor, Alex Otti has sent jitters down the spines of corrupt politicians in the State.

Some loyalists of the immediate past governor of the State perceive the move as politically motivated, but, other citizens of the State, support the initiative, to restore sanity in the manner government businesses are conducted if its purpose of the panel is realized.

The panel, which has a mandate to recover all assets and property of the State within the possession of officials of the immediate administration, was set up on Tuesday.

Membership of the panel are Justice Ikwuoma Duruoha-Igwe (retired) as Chairman; former Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Prof. Ogwo Ekeoma Ogwo; Professor of Mathematics at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Ursula Ngozi Akanwa; Ugochukwu Okoroafor and Rev. Fr Alex Okonkwo.

Addressing members of the Judicial panel, Governor Otti, charged them to be swift in its operations and urged members of the public to support the recovery of looted assets and property in the State.

TheNewspad reports that the panel is expected to Investigate amongst other issues complaints of government property misuse and recommend remedial actions and identify illegal acquisition/conversion of state assets and suggest recovery methods.

The panel is expected to analyze land allocation/revocation from May 2015-2023, judging their appropriateness while reviewing the terms of contract awards from May 2015-2023 for legality.

It was also mandated to Investigate other matters incidental or related to the above with a view to making further recommendations where appropriate.

There are concerns that other Governors may toll Alex Otti’s path. But, only time will tell whether the recommendations of the panel will end up on the library shelves.
