A’Ibom police recover women’s sanitary pads in coffins from ‘robbers’

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Command in Akwa Ibom State have recovered two coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, pictures of people, and other fetish items from five arrested robbery suspects in the State.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John said in a statement that a disturbing items from what was seen as a shrine where the 5-man criminal gang was apprehended during a raid by police operatives.

The suspected cultists and armed robbers identified as Richard Edet Udo, Hope Unibong Anitie, Joseph Ibongidi, Christian Joseph Johnny and Joseph Joseph were alleged to have burgled into a Guest House (name withheld) in Abak area, robbing him of his belongings and raping his female guest on June 26, 2025.

The spokesperson said, “Acting on a firm directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, operatives of the Command initiated an investigation”.

“On July 30, 2025, at approximately 11:10 PM, detectives raided the criminals’ hideout, leading to the arrest of the criminal suspects”, according to the police statement that assured of continuing its investigation to arrest other members of the criminal gang.

The statement reads in part: “During the raid, operatives recovered disturbing items from what appeared to be a shrine, including two coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, pictures of people, and other fetish items”.
